Calera Photographer | Smiley baby J

Some kids just make my job too easy! Baby J was all smiles for her session last week. We got some great shots in her dedication gown. Brother B, we missed you at the session. Hopefully I'll get to see you again soon too!

Springville Photographer | Pink Converse and a Tutu

Is she not too much in her tutu and pink converse? I'm so glad they made a come back! This is one of the sweetest families you could ever meet. I have been photographing Miss B. since she was first born. I was so glad when mom asked me to do Christmas photos again. It had been far too long. I saw them once every 3 months for a year and after she completed the her baby plan, seeing them once a year just hasn't been enough for me. It's always a pleasure and this was no exception. Thank goodness Dad had an iphone so he didn't have to miss a minute of the commentary for the AL/LSU game. You were a sport C!

McCalla Photographer | A&F Guys

I ♥ when moms unload a car full of clothes! This mama didn't just have a carload of clothes... she had a Hummer full of perfect clothes. We had a great time on Morris Avenue this weekend with these two guys. They are so funny and just full of personality. I think they may have had their pictures made a time or two thousand!

Birmingham Photographer | One of the many reasons...

One of the many reasons I love doing photography is all the new people I get to meet. While very few have become life long friends, each and every person I meet teaches me, inspires me or motivates me. I love in home sessions for this very reason. Each time I am welcomed into some one's home, I am always seeing unique things that I love! Sometimes it is landscaping ideas, interior design ideas, well the last family I visited gave me a great new recipe. Hence this post. Mom was having a snack that I couldn't quite figure out what it was. My curiosity was killing me so I had to ask, "What the heck is that?" She kindly offered me a taste and as skeptical as I was, I tried it. As Emeril would say, "BAM!" It was good, no, great, no, it was fantastic. I memorized the recipe (Thank God it was easy!) as she gave it to me. You have to try this. This is what you need. Thin steak, cream cheese, banana peppers and I marinated mine in Dale's for a little bit.

She said you get a very thin steak and make it even thinner with a meat tenderizer. I ended up buying bottom round steak I think it was. Then you put a blob (No, there is no scientific measurement for how much) of cream cheese on one end and a few pieces of banana pepper and roll it up.

Then you roll it the other direction in bacon. Then grill them. Then enjoy! You might want to make extras for lunch the next day. We were having them cold out of the fridge and they were still wonderful.

Alabaster Photographer | The Triple Threat

I met these three cuties on Morris Avenue Saturday. They were so full of personality-- and trains too. Thomas the Train made a cameo in almost every image of the little guy. I was so glad to be able to see them again. It's been far to long! Your gallery will be to you shortly.

Birmingham Photographer | What to Wear Wednesday

I got a mailer from Children's Place today and I love the look of their children's holiday line this year. I paired a big boys, baby boys and big girl look for this weeks What to wear Wednesday. It would be super simple to coordinate parents clothing with this. Black, red and white... who can't find something to go with that? Or better yet, you probably already have something in your closet that will work.

And, if you are on their mailing list, you probably just got 15% coupons in the mail this week too!

Hoover Photographer | Huge Impact

I never thought I could be so in love with a inanimate object. This canvas is amazing, truly a work of art! It's an impressive 24" x 36". Massive I tell you. I'm on a mission to get the perfect shot of my little guy to order one for me too.

Here it is... A whopping two feet by three feet!

And here it is in comparison to two measly framed prints I had handy. They are 5x7 and 8x10.

I can't wait to give this to its rightful owner.

Birmingham Photographer | Photo Tip Friday

Thank goodness it's Friday! Here's your tip for the week. I guarantee you that this tip will dramatically improve the look of your personal snapshots and really make your albums stand out.

Being appointed official family photographer, you have privileges that others can't get away with so easily. One of the rules of etiquette tells us not to invade the personal space of others. However, when it comes to basic photography tips, you are encouraged to ignore this rule. You want to be close enough to your subject so that they fill at least 85% of the frame, while the background contributes no more than 15%. If you are a stickler for etiquette and don't want to be that up close and personal with your subjects, use the zoom on your camera and they'll never know.
The key assumption here is that the background in question is irrelevant. If, for example, you were in front of Mt. Rushmore or a famous location, you might consider breaking this rule.

Here is an example I found on my hard drive. This picture doesn't have much of an impact.

This has much more visual interest. See what I mean?

Lake View Photographer | Fun Maternity

It's always so nice when I meet new families for the first time and we connect like we are old friends, sharing stories and life experiences. It was my pleasure meeting this wonderful couple who will be adding a new little guy to their family very soon. She was so excited about maternity portraits that she STAYED on medicine to stop labor longer than she had to just to get an appointment with me. That's flattering! I can't wait to meet Baby S very soon. They have joined my baby plan so you'll be seeing a lot of him around here.

Hoover Photographer | Arranged Marriage

We have officially decided that this little chick will be my daughter-in-law one day. She's pretty sweet on my little Austin so I think they will be okay with her mother and my arrangement.

Calera Photographer | 2 Years

This has got to be one of my most favorite little rascals ever! I just adore her to pieces. I was so excited to see her Tuesday morning. She saw me come in the door and dropped her bag of M&M's and took off running to come give me love. Melt my heart! She's about to be 2 years old soon. I just cannot believe it. I'm getting old.

Here she is at 1 day old...

And at one year old...

And now...

And this is how you know she's done...

But that's okay because we got plenty of these...

And these...

Birmingham Photographer | What to Wear Wednesday

This week I was inspired by an outfit at Mini Boden. They have the cutest threads for kids and adults. I am showing you a new color palette and how mixing a few patterns can really bring a few outfits to life. Da-da-da-da-da, I'm lovin' this! It does remind me a little bit of McDonalds, but I think the colors coordinate well together. The reds, yellows and blues are a fun and refreshing step away from khaki and white. And the layers... I love them too!

Morris Avenue Photographer | Happy First

I met this little guy downtown for his first birthday pictures this morning. Thank goodness the weather cooperated! He is such a handsome little guy, already walking so well! It was my pleasure seeing you again this morning. Next time you'll have to bring big sis! I need my Miss. K fix!

Birmingham Photographer | What to wear Wednesday

I definitely wouldn't pair these collections together, but for a single child, they would be heavenly! All these items were found at www.gymboree.com. If you have multiple family members to be photographed but want to use one of these collections as your starting place, choose a color from that piece and pair the other family members with that color, denim, khaki and brown.
